Horse feed
Healthy feed for healthy horses – we’re here to help.
The quality of roughage, particularly hay, is crucial to your horse’s well-being and health. Our laboratory offers a wide range of tests to comprehensively assess feed quality.
Mould contamination of feed is particularly relevant, although bacteria and yeasts can also be significant. Microorganisms are naturally present in hay to a certain extent and are generally harmless in this form (product-specific or field-derived microbes). However, improper storage, insufficient drying, increased moisture or contamination can lead to an increase in the content of potentially harmful microorganisms (germs indicating spoilage). As horses are particularly sensitive, stricter guideline values apply to horse hay than to feed for other animal species such as cattle or goats.
If required, we also analyse the feed for mycotoxins (fungal toxins), undesirable plant components such as poisonous plants (e.g. autumn crocus) and pests, such as mites.
In addition to hygienic quality, we also analyse the most important nutrients in the feed – including crude protein, crude oils and fats, and crude ash – as well as energy-related components such as fructan.
This provides you with a well-founded assessment of feed quality, enabling you to take targeted action where necessary.
