Reports on the occurrence and development of the green rice bug are published via the Plant Protection Warning Service.

Recently, this monitoring has been supplemented by an online reporting platform: Green rice bug reports | Warning service - vegetables (lko.at).

Here, farmers and private persons can report findings of the green rice bug, indicating the date of discovery, the location, the affected crops and the observed developmental stages. With these data, we want to learn more information about the distribution and seasonal development of the bug in Austria. Thus, it may be possible to clarify in which regions adults or nymphs are active from when and for how long, over which period eggs are laid, which crops are mainly affected or how many generations actually occur.

According to the Plant Protection Products Register, the natural counterpart of the green rice bug, the ichneumon wasp Trissolcus basalis, has been registered and commercially available in Austria since the end of January 2023 in the field and in glasshouses for various crops in vegetable and ornamental plant cultivation, as well as on herbs, aromatic herbs, medicinal plants, stone fruit, pome fruit, soft fruit and strawberries.
