Flavescence dorée, also known as golden yellow leaf, is caused by cell-wall-less bacteria and leads to yellowing of grapevines. Due to significant yield losses and the need for replanting, the disease has major economic implications for viticulture. In the EU, this disease is listed as a Union quarantine pest and its occurrence must be reported. The main vector of Flavescence dorée is the American grapevine leafhopper.

If Flavescence dorée is suspected, the official regional plant protection service must be notified. In the event of a positive laboratory result, the relevant regional plant protection authorities will take the necessary measures to eradicate the disease.
