Final report of the priority action A-011-25

The aim of the priority action was to check and provide analytical evidence as to whether the fragrances "hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde" and "butylphenyl methylpropional" can still be found on the market in cosmetic products despite their ban.

68 samples from all over Austria were analysed. 31 samples were objected to, in some cases several times:

  • One sample was objected to as harmful due to the high concentration of the banned fragrance "hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde"
  • A prohibited allergenic fragrance was detected in 13 samples. This was only declared in the list of ingredients in six of these samples
  • Although a prohibited allergenic fragrance was declared in nine samples, it could not be detected analytically. The lack of declaration was pointed out for these products
  • One sample was rejected due to its composition
  • Missing or inadequate mandatory labelling was objected to in 20 samples
  • The lack of labelling in German was objected to in six samples
  • Notification was missing for six samples

A total of 16 samples were objected to due to the presence of at least one of the two prohibited allergenic fragrances.
