The aim of the targeted campaign was to determine the level of contamination in meat produced in Austria with dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated pesticides, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and heavy metals, as well as compliance with the applicable maximum levels.
39 samples from across Austria were analysed. Two samples were found to be non-compliant:
- One sample was deemed unsafe – unsuitable for human consumption – due to its lead content
- In one sample, the level of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) exceeded the maximum limit
