The aim of this targeted campaign was to obtain as much accurate data as possible for a reference database, in order to be able to draw conclusions in future about apricots available on the Austrian market. In order to verify the origin and authenticity of apricots in Austria, authentic reference samples (collected from farmers, directly from the field) and corresponding market samples from Austria were taken.
49 samples (of which 30 were reference samples and 19 market samples) from across Austria were analysed; the data collected on the reference samples served the purpose of establishing a reference database and were not subject to any food safety assessment. Based on the reference samples taken, corresponding market samples (from the same producer and of the same apricot variety) were collected from retailers.
- No market sample was found to be non-compliant
- In the case of five samples, falsification regarding origin could not be completely ruled out
