The aim of the focus campaign was to obtain as much accurate data as possible for a reference database in order to be able to draw conclusions about apricots offered on the Austrian market in the future. In order to be able to verify the origin and authenticity of apricots in Austria, authentic reference samples (from farmers, directly from the field) and corresponding market samples from Austria were taken.
45 samples (including 26 reference samples and 19 market samples) from all over Austria were analysed. The reference samples were not assessed in terms of food law; the data collected was used to establish the reference database. Based on the reference samples taken, corresponding market samples (with the same producer and identical apricot variety) were taken from the retail trade. One market sample was rejected:

• One sample showed a labelling violation
• For six samples, the authority was informed that adulteration with regard to origin could not be ruled out
