The aim of the targeted campaign was to assess the levels of selected contaminants and residues in infant formula and follow-on formula, including quaternary ammonium compounds, heavy metals, fatty acid esters (2-monochloropropanediol (2-MCPD), 3-monochloropropanediol (3-MCPD) and its fatty acid esters (MCPD-E), glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE)), chlorate, perchlorate, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), mycotoxins and pesticides. In addition, the microbiological status was assessed and an overview of the additives and flavourings used was compiled based on the lists of ingredients.

79 samples from across Austria were analysed:
