The aim of this targeted campaign was to generate data on the levels of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in plant-based foods from Austria. This targeted campaign was carried out as a monitoring exercise.
148 plant-based food samples from across Austria were analysed:
- No PFAS contamination was detected in 135 plant-based food samples (91.2%)
- In 13 plant-based samples (8.8%), quantitative PFAS levels above the limit of quantification were detected
- Of the 13 samples with detectable PFAS levels, slightly elevated concentrations of PFAS compounds were found in 2 radish leaf samples and 1 radish root
