The aim of the focus action was to survey the microbiological status of sandwiches placed on the market with and without packaging. In the microbiological parameters, pathogenic germs (Bacillus cereus, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, vero- and shigatoxin-forming Escherichia coli) were examined in addition to spoilage and hygiene indicator germs (pseudomonads, Escherichia coli, coagulase-positive staphylococci).
75 samples from all over Austria were examined. Four samples were rejected:
- Three samples did not comply with the Ordinance on the Provision of Food Information to Consumers.
- One sample was found to be impaired in value.
