The aim of the focus action was to obtain an overview of the levels of contaminants and residues such as glycidyl fatty acid esters (GE), free 3-monochloropropanediol (3-MCPD), 3-monochloropropanediol esters (3-MCPD esters) and trans fatty acids (TFA) in fats, oils and fat-containing foods. In the case of margarine and spreadable fats, the contents of volatile and aromatic hydrocarbons and extraction agents were also to be checked as part of this action. 74 samples from all over Austria were examined.
