Final report of the priority action A-021-25

The aim of the focus campaign was to verify the claim "free from endocrine disruptors" described by the Association for Consumer Information.

50 samples from all over Austria were analysed. No samples were objected to with regard to the "free from endocrine disruptors" claim of the Association for Consumer Information or similar claims (e.g. free from parabens, free from octocrylene).

Four samples were rejected due to other defects:

  • In one sample, the detection of salicylic acid in an eyebrow and eyelash booster led to the following complaints:
    • Unauthorised composition, as the limit value was exceeded
    • Salicylic acid was not included in the list of ingredients
    • With regard to the claim "hormone-free", it was pointed out that although this claim in the context of eyebrow and eyelash boosters means that no prostaglandin analogues are used, this claim has the potential to mislead when using the substance "salicylic acid", which is described as having an endocrine effect
  • The advertising claim "Mineral Sunscreen" with simultaneous use of the chemical UV filter "Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine" was judged to be misleading
  • In the case of two samples, the advertising of the absence of animal testing was judged to be dishonest, as animal testing of cosmetic products is generally prohibited.
