Objective of the priority campaign A-702-26 ‘Gluten in gluten-free products in the catering sector’ was to verify the ‘gluten-free’ claims made for products offered in the catering sector, in bakeries and bakery outlets, patisseries and coffee houses, and sold as ‘open-packaged goods’.

A total of 61 samples were analysed, of which three were found to be non-compliant:

• Three samples did not comply with Implementing Regulation (EU) No 828/2014 on the requirements for providing information to consumers regarding the absence or reduced presence of gluten in foodstuffs.

Where food is labelled as ‘gluten-free’, the maximum gluten content is 20 mg/kg. Where the label states ‘very low gluten content’, the food must not contain more than 100 mg/kg of gluten.
