The aim of the "Fragrances in cosmetic products with the claim "fragrance-free"" was to check whether products with this claim (or similar claims) or claims such as "hypoallergenic" contain allergenic fragrances. 72 samples from all over Austria were tested. Eleven samples were rejected:

• seven samples contained allergenic fragrances with misleading claims
• four samples were objected because of further aspects (misleading claims like "detox", "free of metals", deficient list of ingredients, deficient notification)
• two samples were classified as medicinal products

Allergenic fragrances must be declared in the ingredient list at a concentration of

• above 0.001% in products that remain on the skin/hair or
• above 0.01% in products to be rinsed off/rinsed off.
