Final report on priority action A-800-25

The aim of the priority action was to identify strains of Escherichia coli that can produce enzymes such as extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL), AmpC beta-lactamases (AmpC) or carbapenemase. These enzymes inactivate certain antibiotics, including penicillins, cephalosporins, monobactams and carbapenems.

A total of 667 samples from across Austria were examined:

  • ESBL/AmpC-producing E. coli was detected in seven beef and 24 pork samples.
  • Carbapenemase-producing E. coli were not detected in either beef or pork

This priority action is a monitoring campaign designed to monitor and report antibiotic resistance.
