Reference centre for vectors and vector-associated pathogens

As part of AGES' One Health Strategy, the Public Health Business Unit was designated the reference centre for vectors and vector-associated pathogens in September 2025. Vectors are organisms that transport a pathogen (viruses, bacteria, protozoa) from one host organism to another and can cause disease. Due to climatic changes that strongly influence the spread and occurrence of vectors, including their potential pathogens (e.g. giant tick and tiger mosquito), the monitoring of vectors is playing an increasingly important role in public health.
