Since July 2025, 19 people in five federal states (Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol, Vienna) in Austria have fallen ill with a strain of salmonella that has also caused outbreaks in previous years: In 2023, 25 people fell ill with Salmonella Strathcona ST2559 CT3910, in 2024 it was 26 people. In both of these years, the outbreak investigation identified cherry tomatoes from a farm in Sicily as the source.

There is currently no food suspected of causing the outbreak. The Ministry of Health has commissioned AGES to investigate this food-borne outbreak. The investigation is being carried out in close cooperation between AGES, the Ministry of Health and the relevant provincial authorities.
