The aim of the focus action was to check compliance with the legal requirements for plasticizers that transfer from twist-off lid seals into fatty foods. 55 samples from all over Austria were examined. Two samples were objected to:

• one sample did not comply with the regulation on plastic food contact materials
• one sample represented an adverse effect on food and was also unsuitable for human consumption.
• None of the twist-off lid seals tested contained phthalate-based plasticizers. Nevertheless, phthalates were found in about 40% of the foods.
