The objective of the focus action was a survey of the use quantities of the thickeners propylene glycol alginate, carrageenan and Euchema algae in foodstuffs and an investigation of the purity requirements for pure substances. 21 samples from all over Austria were examined.

The quantities used were surveyed and the technical documentation was examined. Ten samples, which were available as pure substances, were examined for compliance with the purity requirements.

• One sample was rejected due to incorrect information in the specification.
