The aim of priority action A-009-26 was to collect data on the radioactivity of Brazil nuts as part of a monitoring programme and to assess the current situation on the Austrian market. Like all foodstuffs, Brazil nuts contain naturally occurring radioactive substances that emit radiation. However, compared with other nuts, Brazil nuts are capable of accumulating radionuclides – particularly radium – to a greater extent.

24 samples were analysed:

• No sample was found to be non-compliant
