The aim of the priority action was to check the maximum levels for nitrate in certain leafy vegetables. The campaign was extended to kohlrabi and leeks for the purpose of data collection in order to check compliance with the Austrian action values for nitrate in certain foods. If necessary, sources of contamination can be identified and measures can be taken to rectify deficiencies or minimise risks.
157 samples of Austrian origin were analysed. Two samples were rejected:
- The respective maximum levels were exceeded in one spinach sample (fresh) and one rocket sample
The Austrian action values for nitrate in foodstuffs were complied with in all 32 kohlrabi samples and in all 30 leek samples.
