In Austria, only dried aromatic herbs and spices may be preserved with ionizing radiation. These products must be labeled "irradiated" or "treated with ionizing radiation". The irradiation of other foodstuffs is prohibited in Austria; they must also not be available in the food trade. Within the scope of this focus action, only goods that did not show any indication of treatment with ionizing radiation were examined. 39 spice samples from all over Austria were examined:
