On 10 June 2026, the government bill on the transposition of the EmpCo Directive into the Austrian Act against Unfair Competition (UWG) was published. This sets clear legal limits on claims such as ‘sustainable’, ‘climate-neutral’ or ‘environmentally friendly’, as well as on sustainability labels.
These new requirements will apply from 27 September 2026. Although the government bill in Austria provides for a three-year phase-out period for goods that were already on the market before the date of application, other countries – such as Germany – do not have comparable deadlines.
In our webinar, we will examine the consequences of this and how sustainability claims can still be communicated in a legally compliant manner in future.
You will gain a comprehensive overview of the key legal changes and the Austrian government’s draft legislation, supplemented by a practical analysis based on selected case studies focusing on LMSVG goods. There will be time afterwards for general questions to clarify any points.
