The aim of the focal action was to continue the legal requirement to monitor the nitrate content of vegetables (especially green leafy vegetables) and to submit the data to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

In the course of this monitoring, 105 samples originating exclusively from Austria were examined.

two samples of spinach/fresh were objected to due to exceeding the legal maximum level for nitrate.
