The aim of the focus action was to check whether the applicable limit values were being complied with.

56 samples from all over Austria were examined, of which 27 spice samples were tested for mycotoxins and 29 tea samples for pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

None of the samples was objectionable

Mycotoxins are harmful metabolic products that can be formed by various molds. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids are natural plant constituents that usually protect plants from predators.
