Final report of the priority action A-008-23

The aim of the focus action was to examine conspicuous goods. 30 samples from all over Austria were examined. 29 samples were objected to:

  • 16 of the 30 samples were classified as unauthorised medicinal products: Five samples were to be classified as medicinal products due to their indications (presentation medicinal products), four due to their composition (functional medicinal products) and seven samples for both reasons. Menthol, camphor and methyl salicylate in appropriate concentrations were the substances that led to the classification as functional medicinal products
  • 13 out of 14 samples of food (2) and cosmetic products (12) were rejected: Two cosmetic products were found to be harmful to health due to their hydroquinone and mercury content. Furthermore, unacceptable fragrances (butylphenyl methylpropional and hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde) and unacceptable amounts of heavy metals (arsenic and cadmium) were detected.
