Radon protection is primarily a building issue. Although radon is present practically everywhere in the air we breathe, it only becomes a problem or a health risk when radon concentrations accumulate indoors. The radioactive noble gas is therefore a technologically induced indoor pollutant, even if it occurs naturally.
In cooperation with the Upper Austrian and Carinthian provincial governments, AGES is organising a two-day course on "Radon - prevention and remediation" for construction professionals. The course explains the radon problem in flats and houses and teaches both the principles of preventive radon protection in new buildings and important knowledge for the planning and implementation of radon remediation measures in existing buildings.
Graduates are able to carry out and assess radon measurements as part of a remediation programme and can be contacted as a contact person for structural radon protection. After attending the course and successfully completing the online exam and homework assignment, graduates are listed on the radon homepage of the Austrian Radon Centre(www.radon.gv.at).
