Final Report of Priority Action A-900-19

The aim of the priority action was to comprehensively record the contamination of milk, eggs and honey from Austrian primary production with residues of prohibited substances, veterinary medicines, pesticides, heavy metals and mold toxins.

767 samples from all over Austria were examined. Three samples were rejected:

  • One sample of cow's milk due to a maximum level being exceeded for the anti-inflammatory substance diclofenac (NSAID).
  • One sample of egg due to the detection of doxycycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the class of tetracyclines
  • One sample of honey due to the detection of sulfathiazole. This residue must not be present in honey.

Since 1998, Austria has participated in the EU veterinary medicines control program. Milk, eggs and honey are tested annually for residues of pharmaceuticals, pesticides and environmental contaminants.
