Final report on priority action A-014-23

The aim of the focus campaign was to analyse the current situation on the Austrian market.

86 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Seven samples were rejected (8.1%):

  • One sample of tuna was found to be harmful to health due to a high histamine content
  • Four samples due to pesticide residues and arsenic
  • Two samples due to incorrect labelling

All 86 samples were contaminated with heavy metals; however, the maximum levels were not exceeded with the exception of one complaint due to inorganic arsenic. Mercury and arsenic were most frequently detectable; in 22 samples (25.6 %) all four heavy metals analysed (lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic) were detectable. Pesticides were also detectable in eight samples (9.3 %).
