Final Report of Priority Action A-012-20

The aim of the focus action was to obtain an overview of the contamination with pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA for short) of the teas and herbal teas offered on the Austrian market. Currently, there is no legally regulated maximum level for PA in tea and herbal tea. Therefore, this focus action was a monitoring.

49 samples were examined:

Twelve samples showed an elevated PA content; a health risk is low, but cannot be completely ruled out.
