The aim of the priority action A-014-18 "Primary aromatic amines in nylon kitchenware" was to verify whether the current legal requirements regarding the migration of primary aromatic amines (PAA for short) are met. Forty-five samples from all over Austria were examined.
- One sample was judged to be harmful to health due to PAA.
The term "primary aromatic amines" (PAA) describes a group of chemical compounds that are used, for example, in the production of certain colorants. Some representatives of these substances are carcinogenic. Materials that come into contact with food must not release any undesirable substances into the food in detectable quantities (migration). The detection limit is 0.01 mg/kg and applies to the sum of the primary aromatic amines released.
