The aim of the focus action was to determine the hygiene status of butter un cheese produced on alpine pastures and to verify compliance with good hygiene practices.
59 samples from all over Austria were examined, 16 samples were rejected:
- Two samples were harmful because of vero/shigatoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC/STEC), one sample because of staphylococcal enterotoxin.
- Nine samples were unfit for human consumption due to massive microbial contamination
- Four samples because of microbiological contamination or too high storage temperatures
