Final Report of Priority Action A-006-18

The aim of the focus action was to examine small manufacturers, some of whom produce in the private sector and sell their creams, soaps and other cosmetic products directly at markets and trade fairs. 78 samples from all over Austria were examined. 32 samples were objected to (in part also several times):

  • 25 samples were found to have deficiencies in labeling
  • 18 samples lacked notification
  • eight samples were found to be misleading due to an advertising statement
  • in two cases the intended use was missing in German language
  • in the case of one soap, unsuitable packaging was chosen, as dyes from the packaging were transferred to the soap.

This frequently repeated focus action (carried out in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016) resulted in consistently high complaint rates (around 50%, predominantly labeling deficiencies, but also misleading statements and one complaint due to harmfulness to health).
