The aim of the priority action was to check the geographical and/or botanical origin and the adulteration by means of added sugar of honey from the Austrian trade.

61 samples from all over Austria were analysed. 12 samples were objected to (in some cases several times):

One sample was found to be adulterated, i.e. the sample did not consist exclusively of honey
The maximum value for the hydroxymethylfurfurol (HMF) content was exceeded in three samples
Ten samples had general labelling deficiencies. Of these, one sample was misleadingly labelled
