The aim of this focus action was to check the Austrian market for the presence of genetically modified papayas.

43 samples from all over Austria were examined:

No sample was rejected

The results of previous focus actions have shown that genetically modified papayas repeatedly appear on the market in Austria. These are mostly virus-resistant papayas from the Asian region. In Europe, genetically modified papayas are not approved as food. For non-approved genetically modified foods, zero tolerance applies throughout the EU.
