The aim of the focus action was to check party accessories for food contact with regard to compliance with the general requirements of the Food Safety and Consumer Protection Act.

48 samples from all over Austria were examined.

• One sample was rejected due to an increased bacterial count.

Investigations have shown that party accessories often do not comply with legal requirements. These include leaking bend light products filled with toxic chemicals or cake decorations with small parts that can be swallowed, as well as leaking permanent ice cubes, drinking straws that cannot be cleaned for multiple uses or colorless, brightly colored paper napkins. In addition, information on proper use is often missing.
