The aim of the focus campaign was to determine the contamination of sunscreens containing octocrylene with the degradation product benzophenone, which will be banned from 1 December 2023.

45 samples from all over Austria were analysed. Three samples were rejected:

In one sample, a health hazard could not be ruled out due to the benzophenone content
Two samples were suspected to contain technically avoidable quantities of benzophenone
