Eco-AlpsWater is a European project involving 12 partners from six countries in the Alpine region (Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland), aiming for improvement of traditional monitoring approaches (Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC-EU WFD and, in Switzerland, the Water Protection Ordinance-WPO).
Integration of new techniques like Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and automation in data processing and storage, and information retrieval for the analysis of environmental DNA (eDNA) from lakes and rivers allow rapid identification of aquatic organisms at low cost.
The project with a duration from April 2018 to April 2021 is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Alpine Space programme.
