Broschüre Boden und Klima - Einflussfaktoren, Daten, Maßnahmen und Anpassungsmöglichkeiten

Brochure on the Connection between Land Use and Climate Changes

Austria’s soils are in diverse relation to climate effective greenhouse gas emissions and anthropogenic climate change. Floods and droughts in large parts of the country in 2013 showed us the huge extent of possible repercussions on our society. Conserving our soils, their quality and diversity at the interface between the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere are of paramount importance for climate protection and adaptation to climate changes.

Brochure on reducing agricultural land use
[Translate to English:] Reduzierung des Verbrauchs landwirtschaftlicher Böden - Maßnahmenvorschläge

Reducing Agricultural Land Use – Proposals for Measures

Land and soil are diverse and fulfil a number of tasks that are often taken for granted. These are habitats, locations for infrastructure and habitation, resources and the cornerstones of our food supplies.

However, the unrelenting use of land (ca. 20 hectares per day) results in a continual decrease in land as a finite resource.

The objective must be to reduce land use to an acceptable extent in the long-term.
This brochure includes ideas for measures that could help reach this goal.

Biochar – Potential and Limits to Application in Agriculture and Forestry

Soil protection, soil fertility and climate protection – the possible use of biochar in agricultural production has been brought back into discussions in conjunction with these issues on a more regular basis. While improper or incorrect production and application may have adverse effects on soil, beneficial effects on soil quality and the environment can be expected from correct usage. This brochure is a collation of practice-oriented information on biochar based on the current level of scientific knowledge.
