Silphium perfoliatum L. is a relatively unknown, high-yield, perennial energy plant with a series of ecologic advantages.  The project "Bioenergy Siliphium", supported by the Climate and Energy Fund, was the first to determine the plant’s potential in Austria and conduct an economic evaluation.

The main objective of the "Bioenergy Silphium" project was to raise bioenergy production using Silphium perfoliatum L. in order to increase the sustainable biomass available for energy recovery in Austria, without limiting existing areas used for food and feed production.
