Sales volumes for antibiotics in veterinary medicine in Austria 2014 (update)

In Austria in 2014, a total of 53.67 tonnes of antibiotics were sold for use in veterinary medicine. In comparison to 2013 there was a total reduction in sales of around 1.31 tonnes. This corresponds to a relative reduction of around 2.4%. To a small extent this is certainly due to the changeover to a new system of recording.

We started to use a new system for the first time for the collection of data for the year 2014: the pharmaceutical companies and wholesalers input their data directly into the database on the AGES Medicines and Medical Devices Agency website. Using this data we calculate the total amount of active substance sold in tonnes. The quantity of antimicrobial active substances used with regard to each individual species has not been mapped.
