The EFSA Advisory Forum consists of representatives from all 28 EU Member States, observers from Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and EU candidate countries, as well as observers from the European Commission and the European Parliament. Essentially, the competent institutions for risk assessment in the Member States are represented in this Advisory Forum, which is chaired by EFSA’s Executive Director.
The forum’s main task is advising the EFSA Managing Director on developing proposals for the EFSA work programme.
The Advisory Forum‘s goal is to establish a close network with the Member States and the intensive transfer of scientific information, as well as the expansion and coordination of cooperation between the Member States and the EFSA. This should help avoid unnecessary redundancies by parallel or repeated work and diverging expert opinions within the EU. This was defined in the Declaration of Intent made by the EFSA Advisory Forum members, signed in Bern (Switzerland) in September 2006.
Austria’s representative in the Advisory Forum is Univ.-Doz. DI Dr. Klemens FUCHS (AGES-DSR), his deputy in the forum is DI Dr. Roland GROSSGUT (AGES-DSR). The EFSA Advisory Forum convenes four to five times per year. The agenda and minutes can be found at the EFSA homepage.
