Site monitoring

Operations at nuclear sites are to be monitored by the authorities granting the site permits, according to Article 17 of the Radiation Protection Act. The operator is prescribed maximum levels for radioactive materials permitted in the environment, as well as the monitoring and reporting of the amounts discharged, among others. AGES carries out the role of monitoring authority of the Institute of Atomic and Subatomic Physics of the universities in Vienna and the Austrian Institute of Technology in Seibersdorf, as part of this official monitoring activity. Substances monitored during the quarterly controls and sample checks include emissions (waste water, extracted air) , as well as diverse media from the site’s environment (immission checks). Annual control reports are compiled on the basis of these measurements and on checks of measurements made by the Operator.
