Since 06.11.2006 the AGES Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene/Centre for Foodborne Infectious Diseases in Graz has been entrusted with the tasks of a National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for Antibiotic Resistance.
The NRL is an accredited testing laboratory according to EN ISO/IEC 17025. The analyses are performed routinely and according to international standards. The quality of the results is ensured by participation in international interlaboratory comparisons.
Activities of the NRL
- Surveillance of antimicrobial resistance in the framework of the Zoonoses Surveillance Directive (2003/99/EC)
- Antibiotic resistance testing of isolates originating from humans, animals, food and feed and the environment
- Molecular biological characterisation of antibiotic resistance mechanisms
- Conduct of studies
