AGES has compiled guidelines for medical staff in reception and distribution centres on rare infectious diseases in Austria. These brochures/leaflets provide a quick overview of pathogens, reservoir/type of transmission, period of infectiousness, incubation period, clinic, laboratory diagnosis and control measures.

The Federal Ministry of Health and the Österreichische Gesellschaft für Infektionskrankheiten und Tropenmedizin (Austrian Society for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine) have compiled the information brochure "Akut behandlungsbedürftige, für Österreich ungewöhnliche Infektionskrankheiten, die bei Asylsuchenden auftreten können" (Rare infectious diseases in Austria that can occur in asylum seekers and that require immediate treatment). Refugees may be affected by diseases that are rare in Austria and can be associated with their journey to some degree. Thus, medical staff working with refugees need to be prepared for some of those, for Austria, unusual diseases that require rapid infectiological diagnostics and professional therapy.
