The ALVA ring test is an international proficiency test that is performed once a year. This ring test 2020 includes 3 samples, one mixed feed, one mineral feed and one pet feed which are examined for elements as well as for ingredients. The samples can be ordered selectively.
The aim of the ALVA ring test is to offer laboratories the following opportunities:
- to determine the accuracy of their results,
- to verify the technical expertise of their staff,
- to assess the functioning capability of their laboratory equipment,
- to test the suitability of methods for different Matrices,
- to fulfill the requirement of the accreditation bodies to participate in proficiency tests.
The organization of this proficiency test is based on EN ISO 17043.

70 € per sample (without VAT) plus postage costs ( € 10,- in Europe and € 25,- outside Europe).
Scope of analysis / methods
Together with the samples, a list of the parameters to be analysed is sent (ingredients, minerals and trace elements, heavy metals,), although analysis of all parameters is not compulsory. The methods of analysis are freely selectable, but should be indicated to improve the interpretability of the results (the method is specified in the report).
Results are to be expressed as mean values based on dry matter.
The evaluation is carried out in accordance with DIN 38402-42 and includes the calculation of mean value, median, standard deviation, coefficient of variation and the specification of z-score and recovery rate based on the mean. The report result is transmitted electronically. The results are anonymous and confidential and may not be passed on nor published without the consent of ALVA.
Evaluation of results
Each participating laboratory receives a certificate of attendance as well as a statement on the laboratories‘ success (number of outliers) and the report in english.
