The LSI (Food Safety Innsbruck), as Austria‘s National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for Pesticide Analysis, is part of the European laboratory network and has the coordinated task of helping National Laboratories for Pesticide Analysis in an advisory and supporting role -- e.g. by carrying out laboratory comparability tests.
The focal point of the LSI’s food examinations are plant-based foods (e.g. vegetables, salads, fruit, cereals, spices, baby food). Food samples from animal-based food products (e.g. meat, fats, eggs, milk and dairy products) and feed (e.g. straight feed, compound feed) are also examined in Innsbruck. However, determining pesticide residues in drinking water and bodies of water is the responsibility of the Institute for Hydro-Analysis in Linz.
