Laboratory Training for the Assessment of Elements in Feed and Food
(21.-25.11.2016)*

The five-day intensive course is held at the National Reference Laboratory for Heavy Metals in Feed and Food at the Department of Chemical Analysis of Elements in Linz. Its objective is to teach feed- and food-related element analytics, ranging from samples to test reports using a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical applications. Different analysis methods (ICPMS, ICP-OES, AAS) will be used in the course of this training. You will gain knowledge about the relevant legal principles and frameworks that validate the analytical methods, quality assurance and the assessment and evaluation of results. The relevant procedures will be carried out by each participant on real samples under professional supervision in a fully equipped laboratory.

The course fee includes course materials, catering with coffee, refreshments, fruits and lunch; excl. 20% VAT. Special requests with regards to catering and transfer services must be agreed upon separately. Should there be fewer than 4 participants, the fee will be reduced by 250 EUR for per person. Fifty percent of the course fee must be transferred to the following account at the time of registration.

Content:

  • Sample receipt and administration; sample registration via LIMS
  • Preparation of samples, including microwave pressure digestion
  • Intensive training in routine methodes, including accompanying QA activities:
  • Multi-element methods (ICPMS, ICP-OES)
  • Single-element methods (AAS)
  • Evaluation of measurement results noting possible interferences
  • Validation process illustrated using an example of a method
  • Assessment of results in line with relevant EU regulations (for contaminants)
  • Details in the test report; detection and identification limits; measurement uncertainty
  • Presenting the activities of the NRL
  • Guided tour through the NRL
  • Overview of relevant standards and regulations at EU levels
  • Discussion of specific requirements of participants
