Laboratory training "Analysis of pesticide residues in plant based food and animal feed”

17.09.2018 - 21.09.2018

What does AGES „Lab Training on the Analysis of Pesticide Residues in Plant Based Food and Animal Feed” offer?

(17.09. - 21.09.2018 or/and 24. - 28.09.2018)

These five-day modules are held at AGES National Reference Laboratory (NRL) for Pesticide Residues at the Institute for Food Safety in Innsbruck. The training focuses on the analysis of pesticide residues from sample receipt to reporting in a comprehensive and practical way. The lab training will detail the legal principles and quality-relevant parameters in an accredited lab, in addition to theoretical knowledge and analytical know-how.

Each participant will carry out all relevant procedures on real samples under professional supervision in a laboratory for routine analysis.

Using pesticide multi-methods (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS) the various modules focus on the analysis of different matrices. The Basic Module will detail the fundamentals of pesticide analysis and its attendance is compulsory for possible Add-On modules which focus on the extraction, analytics (incl. accompanying quality assurance) and evaluation of results of more complex matrices.

Basic Module:

Simple, plant-based food and animal feeds (fruit and vegetables with medium to high water content; cereals, dried fruit, single feedstuffs …) will be examined in the Basic Module. This module focuses on relevant quality assurance parameters, legal framework, and theoretical background besides the practical analysis of different minor complex samples of plant origin.

Add-On Module 1:

In Add-On Module 1 more complex plant-based matrices such as tea, herbs and spices, fatty food (oilseeds) and feedstuffs are being examined. Special modifications in sample purification and extraction are necessary to properly examine these matrices and will be presented in this training course.

Add-On Module 2:

Examination of animal based foodstuff (milk and dairy products, honey, eggs, meat and fish …) will be presented in Add-On Module 2. In this module a special, modular sample preparation procedure which has been successfully developed by the NRL for complex matrices will be presented.

Optional Add-On Module:

A tailored Add-On Module can be offered upon request. Hence, certain topics of the lab training can be advanced or even special methodology (e.g. single residue methods) will be presented in a 5-day training session especially targeted for your needs.

Lab training target group:

Users (analysts, heads of laboratories …) from the field of food and animal feed analysis with knowledge in analytical chemistry and in instrumental analysis.
