The tasks of the Department of Veterinary Microbiology encompass the diagnosis of infections as part of the fight against animal epidemics and zoonoses, as well as veterinary tests for animal-based samples in the region with the highest density of poultry in Austria.

Focus:

  • Bacteriological diagnosis as part of zoonoses surveillance and resistance Monitoring 
  • Contact for veterinary issues with regards to bacterial zoonoses (e.g. salmonella, campylobacter, outbreak surveys) 
  • Consultancy and expert Services 
  • Project partner for the professional public, animal health service and local veterinary Service 
  • Applied research
